Ms. Ritter does not sugarcoat and wants the best for her students.
I have been studying with Ms. Elza for around 6 years. She is simply amazing, both as a person, pianist, and teacher. Her mix of the Russian and American teaching techniques result in the perfect combination of warmth, enjoyment, and hard work. She succeeds in making her students play music, not only notes.
The very way she speaks to you, rectifies your errors, or praises you, makes you want to improve your playing. Thanks to her nature, you naturally want to come to your lesson having worked on your piece. And if you feel you could have done better, Ms. Elza’s smile encourages you to do just that.
Ms. Elza has truly instilled in me a love of music, a love of piano. It’s not always easy, as, just like everything, piano requires a lot of hard work. Sometimes it’s hard to practice regularly. But Ms. Elza teaches me to think on my own. She doesn’t only tell you what you have to improve and work on. She lets you develop your own ear for music.
Ms. Elza pays attention to each and every one of her students, not as a group, but looking at their individual selves, and adjusting to everyone’s unique personality. She picks out pieces based on the person who will be playing them, and lets us have a voice in the matter as well.
The skills I have learned in these classes, which don’t only apply to piano, will follow me throughout my life. Although due to moving, I won’t be able to keep Ms. Elza as my teacher, she will definitely stay a dear mentor and friend.
I have been a life-long admirer of the piano but never got the chance to learn as a child.
I started lessons with Ms Ritter on August 19th,2016. Before that, I had taken piano lessons on and off in the last 5 years. In the short 2 months with Ms Ritter, I can already see and hear my progress. Any musician with a good ear can point out the mistakes, but only an experienced piano teacher like Ms Ritter can break down difficult problems and suggest effective methods by which to improve.
Ms Ritter is very methodical in her approach and focuses on building a solid foundation upon which students can develop their musical talents. She is also great at keeping students engaged and motivated. But what I love most about Ms Ritter is her dedication and passion for music. It is clear that she's constantly thinking of ways to help her students to improve. Even though she has many students, every time I come to class, she remembers exactly what my issues were from last week, and usually has already prepared material for me to work on to solidify new techniques. Her homework assignments are not just random pieces thrown together hastily, you can clearly see how they compliment one another.
I highly recommend Ms Ritter.
I am so happy we have found Ms. Elza! My daughter loves going to piano class and has learned so much. I love how Ms. Elza uses the Russian's stricter style of teaching but makes it fun so the kids do not lose interest at the same time. My daughter has improved significantly since we have been going to her. Cost is also comparable to other teachers in the NOVA area.
